To rack up the biggest scores and most spectacular combos in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, you’re going to want to perform special tricks.
Each and every character in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 has a range of special tricks to perform. Furthermore, you can add more to their repertoire, too.
To view a skater’s available tricks, as well as how to perform them, when on the main menu navigate to the skater menu with the left and right shoulder buttons. Then, select the tricks tab with the left and right triggers. There, you can view a skater’s special tricks, including how to perform them, as well as assign additional tricks to open trick slots. You can unlock additional trick slots by completing challenges with each skater.
You can’t perform special tricks whenever you please in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, however. First, you need to light up the special meter in the top left hand corner of the screen. Simply pull off normal tricks without bailing, and the special meter will light up. When lit, press the required inputs to perform the special trick you want and watch that score rack up.
Special tricks generally require you to tap two directions then press either the grab or kick button to perform them. What’s handy, however, is that you can allocate your own commands for them via the tricks menu. So, make them easy for yourself to remember. You should also be aware that many special tricks need a decent amount of air time to perform. Try each of them out and get accustomed to them.
