A remake of the first two games in the series, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 has a lot of levels for you to skate across and perform massive tricks in.
When you start playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 for the first time, you’ll find that you can jump into the levels of the first or second Tony Hawk’s games right away. You can also start doing one, quit to the main menu, then jump into the other. Your progress in each of the games’ levels is separate, though things like stat points, challenges, etc. are shared between the two.
Whether you jump into the first level of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 or 2 first, however, you’ll find that additional levels need to be unlocked. And to do that, you need to complete objectives found in each level.
At the start of each level the camera will pan around it while informing you of the objectives. Pay attention, as it will also give you a clue as to how to complete some of them. Nearly every level has the word SKATE for you to find, for example, as well as a hidden tape that is usually tricky to get to. There’s generally always some objects to collect or smash as well, and a couple of specific tricks to perform. You get two minutes to complete objectives, so just focus on one at a time if that helps.
Four objectives in each level are tied to meeting score targets. You’ll need to perform a good combo, and then try to rack up the best score you can. If you’re struggling to do this, try to collect some stat upgrades to upgrade your skater. Sometimes it pays to move onto the next level to collect its upgrades, then return to earlier levels to conquer all of their score objectives. Upgrades often help you to complete other objectives, too.
Every once in a while, however, the game will also throw a competition your way. In these, you get three runs in which to impress the judges. Your best two scores are added together for an overall score, and you need to place third or better to continue. Just crank out your best tricks and try not to bail too much and you’ll be fine.
Ultimately, you’ll be needing to complete about 80% of the objectives found in each level of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 to unlock them all.
