Following last night’s PS5 showcase, Sony announced that a few of its supposed PS5 exclusive games will also be making their way to PS4.
It’s good news for people who aren’t planning to rush out to buy a PS5 at launch. And perhaps means there’s even less reason to upgrade quickly. Sony has revealed that Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will all be coming to PS4. They’ll launch at the same time as the PS5 versions.
Of course, they’ll be missing some of the advanced features that the next-gen version of the games promise. As quoted on the PlayStation Blog:
While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch.
So they may not look as nice, may be missing some advanced haptic feedback support and will load slower – but by and large, they’ll be the same game.
Sony also revealed that if you purchase any of those games on PS4, you’ll be entitled to a free PS5 version when you do upgrade consoles. If you buy a disc version, you’ll only be able to enjoy the upgraded PS5 version if you have a PS5 console with a disc drive. If you buy the games digitally on PS4, you’ll get a free digital upgrade, compatible with both versions of PS5.
