Can You Play Watch Dogs: Legion Offline?

Watch Dogs: Legion makes use of Ubisoft Connect, but is it possible to play the game offline? Here’s what you need to know.

There’s a slowly growing number of games that, despite being single-player, require an online connection. Godfall, for example, an upcoming PlayStation 5 title, focuses on solo shenanigans but requires an online connection. Nor is this necessarily anything to do with DRM anti-piracy measures, either. So what about Watch Dogs: Legion, which makes use of Ubisoft Connect. Can it played offline?

For console players, the simple answer is, yes, it can. Watch Dogs: Legion will show you a message confirming it’s not connected to Ubisoft’s servers, but there’s nothing to stop you playing the game. You’ll lose very little by playing Watch Dogs: Legion offline – yes, there is a multiplayer mode coming in December but for now it’s a fully solo experience.

If you’re playing on the PC, it’s a little more complicated. If you buy Watch Dogs: Legion through the Epic Games Store you also have to log onto Uplay at least once, before activating offline mode. You can also buy the game directly through Uplay, using the Uplay launcher, and play offline, though from our experience both are occasionally finnicky.

So if you’re playing Watch Dogs: Legion you can play it offline. If you’re on the PC, you can theoretically play it offline but don’t be surprised if the Epic or Uplay launcher decide you have to login.
