Hearthstone Gets a New Game Mode, Duels, Available in Early Access

I challenge thee to a Hearthstone duel!

Blizzard Entertainment has just announced a brand new game mode coming to the trading card game, Hearthstone. The new game mode, called Duels, is a competitive mode that changes every season.

In Duels, you’ll choose your hero, a hero power, a starting treasure and you’ll build a 15-card starter deck from your own collection. Then, you’ll face off against other players in a Dungeon Run. After each match you’ll be able to enhance and change your deck around with new minions, spells and more to take on increasingly difficult opponents.

During its first season Duels will have a curated assortment of cards from a number set for players to choose from including:

  • Scholomance Alchemy
  • One Night in Kharazan
  • Curse of Naxxramas
  • Basic
  • Classic

When you complete a match you’ll gain more health and you’ll be able to level up your deck by picking one of three sets of cards categorised by theme. This is where you’ll also be able to pick a cool treasure like the Small Pouches that give you an additional card at the start of the game. Your run will end after you lose three games or you’ll finish when you get 12 wins.

You can start playing Duels right now in Early Access. Each of the playable classes will start with one hero power and one treasure and will use cards from one of the assortments listed above.

Gain access to Duels: Early Access by pre-purchasing either of the Madness at the Darkmoon Faire bundles. Otherwise, you’ll gain access to Duels: Early Access on November 12th, when it’ll be free and open to all players.
