Happy New Year, everyone!

It’s now 2021. A brand new year, and a brand new month. And that means a brand new swathe of games releases to look forward to. As always, January is a little on the quiet side – but it’s not too much of a problem, as it means we’ve got an opportunity to catch up on our heaving backlogs.

But if you are itching for something new to play in January, you’ve still got a few excellent games to look forward to. Here’s what’s set to release in the next few weeks.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is back. This beloved side-scrolling brawler returns this January thanks to a complete edition, bundling up the original game with all of its DLC. Whether you’ve played it to death before or are unaware of Scott’s exploits, be sure to check it out. Especially if you like a bit of local or online co-op action.

MXGP 2020 – The Official Motocross Videogame

MXGP 2020 is already available on a handful of formats including PS4 and Xbox One, but if you want to play it at its best, next-gen PlayStation and Xbox versions are arriving this month. They’re no doubt not for everyone, but previous MXGP games have been solid racing affairs. So, if you like bikes and getting dirty, this one probably won’t disappoint.

Release date: 20th January

Are you ready to be reunited once more with Agent 47? The conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy, Hitman 3 offers players yet more scenarios to stealth their way through, with plenty of premeditated murder along the way. Levels from previous Hitman games can once again be imported, while PlayStation gamers can immerse themselves further than ever before thanks to VR support. This is likely to be January’s must-have title.

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy

The latest in the Atelier series is very nearly here. Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout impressed us when it released in late 2019, and so we’re expecting Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy to do the same. If you’ve not already played the first game and are after a fun RPG to waste some time with this January, you’ve got plenty of time to finish it before this sequel arrives.

Olija

In Olija, you find yourself shipwrecked and then trapped in the mysterious country of Terraphage. Armed with a legendary harpoon, it’s up to you to explore the strange world you’ve found yourself in, trying to find a way to get back to your homeland. Though with countless adversaries in your way, as well as many puzzles, it won’t be easy. Needless to say, you should keep this on your radar if you like challenging adventures.

The Medium

If you’ve been lucky enough to secure yourself an Xbox Series X or S, The Medium might prove to be your first true taste of next-gen. A new horror game from Bloober Team, it boasts a dual-world mechanic and has Akira Yamaoka working on its soundtrack. Hopefully, then, it can impress and unsettle like the old Silent Hill games. In any case, it’ll be included in Xbox Game Pass from day one, so if you’re a subscriber you won’t have to pay any more to play it. It’ll be available on PC, too, where it’ll also be available via Game Pass.
