Wondering how to use the spirit box in Phasmophobia? Here’s everything you need to know.
I’m easily scared. Especially when it comes to ghosts. I don’t like ghost-related movies or TV shows because it feels much too real. That’s why I was apprehensive to play the Early Access game Phasmophobia. In the game, you use a variety of ghost hunting devices to do try to discover what type of ghost is haunting the location you’re in. Playing the game is simple, but mastering its devices, not so much. One such device is the spirit box. Here’s what you need to know about how to use it.
First, you’ll want to make sure that your mic is working. To do this, go to the game’s main menu and select “Options”. Go to the audio section and click on “test”. You’ll then be prompted to say a phrase. Once you get a “we heard you” prompt, you’re good to go.
Once in game, you’ll find out which room in the location you chose is the hot spot for ghost activity. This spot is randomised each time you play Phasmophobia. If you have the Spirit Box in your inventory, right-click to pull it out. You’ll see frequencies appear on screen when it’s in use. Don’t be discouraged if the box says, “Nothing detected.” Keep trying until you’re sure that spirit box isn’t one of the things your ghost will respond to.
Here are some questions you’re likely to get responses to:
- Can you speak to us?
- Make a noise.
- Give us a sign.
- Let us know you’re here.
- Turn on/off the light.
- Are you here?
- Are you a man or a woman?
- Is this your home?
- We’re your friends.
To really get a response from the spirit box in Phasmophobia, you can also use the ghost’s name. You’ll find this written on the whiteboard in the van – but be careful not to say it too often; you might anger the ghost if you do.
That’s all you need to know about using the spirit box in Phasmophobia. Hope this helps in your future ghost-hunting endeavours. And don’t forget, if you do die in-game you’ll lose all your hard-earned stuff, so be careful!
