This list will make you hungry.
Oftentimes when we play games we shovel the pixelated food down our character’s gullet without a second thought. It’s what they need to survive, who cares if it looks or sounds tasty? And yet, game creators purposely make the food look absolutely delicious most of the time. We don’t know what the purpose of this is, but when we really start to look at the food, boy does it make us hungry. It’s no wonder we find ourselves snacking while we play games.
On the subject of video game food, we’ve put together a short list of food from video games we wish we could eat right now. Our tum tums are rumbling and we’re ready to eat.
Stardrop Fruit from Stardew Valley
While Stardew Valley has a plethora of delicious foods for your character to learn how to make, we’ve chosen the Stardrop fruit because of its mystery. We all know what pancakes, sushi or pizza taste like, but what could the Stardrop possibly taste like? The game describes it as “flavor like a dream.” Players choose their favourite thing at the beginning of the game and it will say that the Stardrop reminds the player of that thing. I chose narwhals. It was a bit weird, I’ll be honest.
The best part about the Stardrop is that it increases your overall max energy. Plus, it heals you completely. So clearly it’s a magical fruit with lots of good vitamins and minerals for a growing human. The Stardrop simply looks absolutely delicious and that’s why we wish we could eat it right now.
Dragon Pie from Don’t Starve
You’d be surprised to find out how to make the dragon pie in Don’t Starve. It can be made with a dragon fruit and three other fruit or veg, but the more popular way to make the pie is with a dragon fruit and three sticks in the crockpot. Sure, this doesn’t sound exactly appetising, but when you get a dragon pie in the game it is life changing. Not only does it look amazing, but it heals your character almost to full on hunger and heals them a lot as well.
We love that all of the food in Don’t Starve looks a bit sinister. The froggy bunwich just looks like you’ve shoved a frog in between two buns. And the dragon pie is no different. It looks like something that might come alive and attack you. But, if you think that’s going to deter us from sinking our teeth into it, you’ve got another thing coming.
Durrburger from Fortnite
We know that eating a burger with eyeballs and a tongue isn’t exactly the done thing, but hear us out. It looks like a gourmet burger. Every time we jump into Fortnite and land at the Durrburger we can’t help but want to scoff down every last thing on the menu. And every time someone dressed up as the burger guy kills us in the game, we want to eat his head for revenge.
If we’re being honest, all of the food featured in Fortnite actually sounds pretty good. Pizza Pit, Durrburger, Fishsticks – it all sounds like classic American fare. But it’s the durrburger, with its gorgeous bun, succulent tomato slice, creamy cheese and luscious burger that we wish we could eat right now. Mmmm.
The Sinner’s Sandwich from Deadly Premonition
Another food that down on paper probably doesn’t sound so tasty is The Sinner’s Sandwich from Deadly Premonition. The sandwich is actually really simplistic. It’s white bread with turkey, strawberry jam and cornflakes cereal. Ew, right? It feels like the equivalent of people who put ketchup on their eggs or eat pickles with peanut butter.
But the way that the protagonist reacts to the sandwich is what makes us really wish we could try it right now. He claims that it is incredibly delicious and, seeing as York rarely has a strong reaction to anything, we believe him. Go ahead, whip one up for us! We’ll give it a try.

Salmon Meuniere from Breath of the Wild
Like most of the other titles on this list, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is full of unbelievably delicious looking foods. In fact, The Legend of Zelda series has always had delicious looking foods, but Breath of the Wild is the first time you’re able to make them yourself. We’ve plucked salmon meunière onto the list is because there’s a fun quest in the game that teaches you how to make it after a young Rito girl gives you the quest.
This fish dish is made with hearty salmon, goat butter, tabantha wheat and, if you wish to remove the hearty effect of the dish, any ingredient that isn’t hearty. Just looking at the picture makes us drool and the description of the food “The crispy skin of this fried hearty salmon puts its texture in a class all its own” makes us want to eat it right now even more.
