Plague Inc: The Cure, a new piece of DLC for the virus-spreading strategy game, is here and it’s absolutely free.
Unfortunately, despite our initial joy, it doesn’t put you in the shoes of fuzzy-haired singer Robert Smith. Instead, it tasks you with curing a variety of global infections, mirroring the real life struggle to keep Coronavirus under control. You can’t carve “WEAR A DAMN MASK” into the moon but there are a wealth of other strategies you can employ as you attempt to get the world working together to make a working vaccine.
What’s particularly interesting about The Cure is that, when creating a virus, Plague Inc has always given you some major advantages. Create a mutation and suddenly that mutation is everywhere. But, as we’ve seen, when a virus mutates it takes time to spread; we’re curious to see if this new DLC adopts the former or latter approach. We still would have liked Robert Smith, though – we haven’t been this disappointed since someone told us Siouxsie and the Banshees were in Mass Effect 3.
Think you’ve got what it takes to save the world? You can check out The Cure’s launch trailer below. If you own Plague Inc, the DLC is available right now and will be free until Coronavirus is under control. And if you don’t, you can pick up Plague Inc for 60% off on Steam. The DLC is also available on Android and iOS but, as yet, there’s no word about consoles.
