The next entry into the much-loved Samurai Warriors series is just mere months away.
Revealed last night during the Nintendo Direct steam, Koei Tecmo is bringing Samurai Warriors 5 to PC and console this summer. Like previous entries in the series, it puts players in the shoes of a single warrior who must face off against crowds of thousands of adversaries. If you enjoy mindlessly hacking your way through enemies, this is the series for you.
Samurai Warriors 5 promises a fresh take on the series, introducing a brand new art style. Judging by the trailer, it looks great. There’s an all-new storyline too; set in the Sengoku period, players will become familiar with Mitsuhide Akechi and Nobunaga Oda.
There’s no specific release date for the game just yet, with a window of “summer 2021” being provided. We shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for more information, though; Koei Tecmo has committed to airing monthly livestreams which will provide regular updates. The first of these will take place next Thursday, 25th February.
Samurai Warriors 5 will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. No next-gen versions have been announced, but it will of course be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility.
