We all know that some really weird things can happen in Fortnite.
Just the other day I was surrounded by other players just… sweeping. A new emote was added into the game and now players can just sweep whenever they want. But there’s a whole host of other random things that can happen when you’re not expecting it.
Like seeing a shark on land.
Last season my friends and I were playing a lot of Fortnite. I know what you’re thinking. A grown woman playing Fortnite? Well, you know what? The outfits are cool, okay? Don’t judge. Anyway, after dozens and dozens of games your eyes start to get a little fuzzy and you start to think you may be seeing things that aren’t really there.
Which is why, when my friend and I landed in Pleasant Park, we were surprised to hear the music that indicates a shark is nearby. It was Pleasant Park – the only water nearby was a small pond. Where on Earth could it be coming from? We decided it was just in our heads right before we heard the shooting.
Fortnite has characters called IO Guards. We hate these NPCs because they shoot you on sight and almost always show up at the absolute worst time. But this time we couldn’t have asked for a better cameo. We looked to the horizon and there it was: a shark leaping again and again on land beelining for the IO Guards who, we assume, it wanted to eat for its next meal.
This wasn’t just a normal shark either – it was an epic shark. That meant that if the IO Guards actually managed to kill him they’d get some tasty loot. Of course, IO Guards are brainless NPCs so they wouldn’t know what to do with the loot. So we followed the action as best we could (cackling the whole time).
They fought valiantly on the streets of Pleasant Park in and out of buildings but the shark just crashed right through the walls. It was relentless. Like watching a spin-off of the movie Sharknado where a single shark has broken off from the herd and is found flopping around an unsuspecting town wreaking havoc.
You’ll be happy to know that the shark killed all of the IO Guards and lived before we proceeded to murder it for its rare land-sharky precious loot. It was a once in a lifetime experience that we’ll never forget. It would have been much more satisfying if we won that match but there’s not much that can be done about that now, eh?
