How to Get Shards in Outriders

Outriders 2

If you want to upgrade the attributes on your weapons or armour in Outriders, you’ll need shards. But how do you get them? Here’s what you need to know.

There are several currencies and crafting materials that you’ll need in Outriders. Alongside scrap, leather, iron and titanium are the more mysterious ‘shards’. You’ll not have just one number for the amount of shards you own in Outriders, because they come in different shapes and sizes. In fact, every possible attribute on a piece of equipment has its own shards.

You can see how many shards you have by hovering over ‘shards’ in the inventory menu or when you’re upgrading an item. You’ll see a list of each possible attribute – crit damage, healing received, close range damage, etc. – and each will have its own number. That’s how many of those particular shards you have. You’ll need specific shards in order to upgrade that specific attribute.

But how do you get shards in Outriders? It’s quite easy: by breaking down weapons and armour. Next to at least one attribute on an item, you’ll see a small diamond symbol. That’s the type of shards you’ll receive when you break down that item. If you’ve spent shards on upgrading attributes, you’ll notice the diamond symbol also appears by the side of those attributes. If you’ve spent shards on an item, you’ll get some back should you break down the item.

It’s easy to burn through your shard supply if you make a habit of increasing attributes for your equipment, so keep a close eye on the amount you have. And remember to keep breaking down items you don’t want instead of selling them if you need more shards.
