Today, Bandai Namco has announced that Tales of Arise has a release date: 10th September.
It’s a little later than originally planned, with its initial release window being 2020. But delays are part and parcel of the game development process these days. Especially in the era of Covid-19, it’s not surprising to see games being pushed back by a year. In this case, though, the delay brings good news: Tales of Arise is now getting dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.
For those unfamiliar, Tales of Arise is the latest game in Bandai Namco’s long-running JRPG series. Dating way back to 1995, it’s been five years since the release of the last game in the series, Tales of Berseria. It’s in fact been the longest game yet, with releases often being yearly.
Hopefully Tales of Arise will be well worth the wait, though, whether you’re a fan of the series or a newcomer. The story follows Alphen and Shionne, an unlikely duo who come together in order to save their home planet. That planet, Dahna, has been ruled by an iron first by Rena for many years, depleting it of its natural resources and enslaving its population. Expect to meet a lot of colourful characters, engage in epic battles and explore a vast world.
There will be plenty of new touches to the game, while still carrying the “DNA of the franchise”. It makes use of Bandai Namco’s “Atmospheric Shader” technology, giving the game a hand-drawn aesthetic. It brings the already beautiful world to life with vivid colour and style, in the aim of immersing the player even further in the action.
Needless to say, we’re looking forward to getting our hands on Tales of Arise later this year. It launches on 10th September, and will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and Xbox One.
