The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is bringing two previously Japan-only games to the west, in one collection.
The good news is that we’re finally getting an English version of a Japan-only Ace Attorney game that’s remained untranslated for far too long. The bad news is, it’s not Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Still The Great Ace Attorney is the other game we’ve long craved and it’s arriving in July, bundled with its sequel, The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve.
The two games take place at the turn of the 20th century, in Japan and England, and follow the exploits of Ryunosuke Naruhodo. Naruhodo is Wright’s Japanese ancestor. We guess that, at some point, Naurhodo’s family must have moved to the USA because Phoenix Wright is absolutely, definitely 100% American.
Naurhodo also enlists the help of one Herlock Sholmes, a detective who we suspect will end up being barely more competent than Dick Gumshoe. Yes, that name is apparently a copyright thing, since some Sherlock Holmes stories are still under copyright till January 2023.
You can expect plenty of investigative shenanigans, along with some heated courtroom battles, albeit without the high-tech kit that Phoenix Wright has access to. The two titles originally launched on the 3DS but the collection will be receiving a Playstation, Nintendo Switch and PC release.
You can check out the teaser trailer below or get your hands on The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles when it charges into court this July 27th.
