Upcoming Outriders Patch Promises to Address Server Issues and More

Square Enix and People Can Fly’s looter-shooter RPG Outriders launched last week – and to a roaring success.

Its player count exceeded expectations, which isn’t surprising; after spending 40-odd hours with Outriders ourselves, we are rather besotted with its fast-paced combat and exhilarating gameplay. One major problem has been holding it back, though: frequent server issues. Since launch, players have either had trouble getting connected or finding themselves booted or their game crashing while playing. Less than ideal, since this is a game that requires you to always be online.

However, yesterday Square Enix released details of an upcoming patch that, along with several other things, will address some of the server issues players have been facing. It will aim to fix crashes, matchmaking issues and multiplayer stability, alongside various other game balancing and bug fixes.

The full patch notes can be found on the official Outriders reddit, but we’ve pulled out the most interesting points below.

Server issues/Multiplayer
  • Overall stability improvements for the matchmaking service
  • The default matchmaking setting will change from “open” to “closed”. This should help matchmaking times and reduce the constant matchmaking requests generated by “open” games.
  • Multiplayer stability and speed will be improved, though continuous support to these systems will be provided in the coming weeks due to the complexity of the issue.
General fixes
  • Fix for a multiplayer crash that can result in players having their inventory wiped.
  • Will fix the HUD disappearing in certain cases.
  • Will fix crash on launch issues.
  • Players who have experienced inventory wiped should get a restore in the coming weeks, though only the most valuable tiers of items (epic and legendary) will be restored.
  • Historian quests, bounties and monster hunts will no longer grant legendary items for subsequent complete runs.
  • Loot drops on Tooka Beast, Splittooth, Sandshifter and Coldclaw have been reduced.
  • Class bullet abilities – Twisted Rounds, Blighted Rounds and Volcanic Rounds – have been adjusted to avoid being overpowered.

As an apology for the issues, all players who have jumped into Outriders between 31st March and 11th April will receive an “appreciation package”. Exact details and an ETA have yet to be decided, but players will receive a legendary weapon for their highest level character, a level appropriate amount of titanium, and a “Frustration” emote.

The patch detailed above is expected to go live within the next week.
