Subnautica: Below Zero doesn’t just have you dealing with the cold and the wildlife, hunger is a factor too. So how do you get your hands on food? Read on.
There are lot of edible items in Subnautica: Below Zero. Some food rots if you leave it around long enough and eating it will actually make you more hungry – but Below Zero won’t let you eat anything toxic. Eating raw or salted fish might make you thirsty but, aside from that, you can shove all sorts of items into your mouth without serious consequences.
However, the simplest way to stop going hungry is to cook and eat fish. As above, you can eat fish raw if you don’t mind getting a bit thirstier. But cooking it is better, so:
- Grab a fish.
- Take it to your base or, if it has a fabricator, your Sea Truck.
- Cook it using the menu.
- Eat it, which will also give you some water.
You can also upgrade your knife to automatically cook things, which is a great way of keeping fed when you’re in the depths. Until you get to the very lowest part of the ocean, there will be some sort of collectible, edible fish around. You can even equip your Sea Truck with a module that collects fish for you. Just make sure you keep an eye on your yellow food meter.
