The latest game from The Pokémon Company is New Pokémon Snap, tasking you to take pictures of Pokémon that you discover around the region.
When you start playing, you’re limited to just one region. Eventually you’ll be available to visit it at night, uncovering new Pokémon and new habits. But how do you unlock new areas in New Pokémon Snap?
Playing through New Pokémon Snap is a rather linear affair. You’ll travel to an area, have your photos assessed by the professor, and rinse and repeat. It isn’t until the professor tasks you with something new that you get to visit a new area; this isn’t an open world game that you’re free to explore, after all.
It seems that you need to get at least rank two in an area before you can move on. So if you’re stuck in the same area, just keep plugging away; trying to take new photos of previously-unseen Pokémon, or capturing new poses. You’ll rank up by earning points, and the better your photo is (how close-up you captured a Pokémon, how interesting its pose is, how many other Pokémon are in the frame) the better your score will be.
Once you’re ready to progress, the professor will trigger a cutscene once he’s assessed your photos, and you’ll be able to move to the next area.
