The latest entry in Codemasters’ F1 racing game series is just over one month away, and there’s very good news for next-gen console owners.
Codemasters has revealed that F1 2021 will feature two graphical presets on PS5 and Xbox Series X: Performance and Graphics. In Performance mode F1 2021 will run up to a blistering 120fps, making the action smoother and more responsive than ever before. And for those who aren’t bothered about 120fps or don’t have a TV that supports it, Graphics mode will still offer a smooth experience at 60fps but with additional visual flourish.
For those wondering about ray-tracing, it will be in the next-gen console versions of F1 2021 but only during replays, broadcasts and in the showroom. On PC it can also be enabled to provide shadows and reflections during gameplay.
Of course, there are other improvements for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S too. Loading times will apparently be near instant, keeping players engaged as they move from race to race. 3D spatial audio has also been implemented – those with sound systems or headsets capable of making use of it are likely to feel closer to the action than ever before. On PS5, F1 2021 will also have adaptive trigger support, allowing for more feedback through the controller during gameplay. And Activity Card support will allow players to quickly jump into various aspects of the game for convenience.
Having gone hands-on with the PC version of F1 2021, we think PS5 and Xbox Series X owners will be in for a treat when it launches on 16th July. With its new Braking Point story mode, career mode enhancements and tweaks to gameplay, it’s shaping up to be the best Formula One game yet.
