That title sounds confusing, but it’s true: EA is offering owners of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order a free upgrade, even if they own an Xbox One/PS4 disc version but have a discless next-generation console.
An updated version of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out today on PS5 and Xbox Series X. If you’ve never owned the game before, you can buy it digitally or physically. It offers improved framerates, better resolutions, better textures and faster loading times – so, essentially, it’s the best way to play.
A free upgrade path is available if you already own the game digitally or physically. If you own Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order digitally, you can upgrade automatically from your console. The same is true if you have a disc and a console that accepts discs. However, EA is going one step further and letting you upgrade a disc even if you have an Xbox Series S or PS5 Digital Edition. This is something that no other publisher has offered so far; if you happen to have a discless new-generation console and want to upgrade your PS4 or Xbox One disc, it’s been “tough luck” up to this point. But EA is being extra generous.
EA says, by providing proof that you own the game and a discless next-gen console, it will provide you with a digital code for the game. It’s an extremely generous offer, but you need to jump through a few hoops to get there.
You’ll need to fill in your details on an online form, and provide the following:
- A photo of your physical disc, with a hand-written note next to it displaying your PSN or Xbox username.
- A picture of your game receipt (or screenshot of invoice), showing date of purchase, price you paid, name of the game you bought. If it’s a physical receipt from an in-store retailer, you’ll need to sign and date before taking a picture of it.
- A picture of your discless console’s receipt or purchase confirmation. It needs to show name of the console you purchased, date of purchase and price you paid. You’ll need to sign and date this too.
- If you don’t have proof of purchase, you can take a picture of your TV screen while you’re logged into your discless console, showing your PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag on screen.
