The Goriest Games on PS4

You’ve got red on you

God of War 3

Some of us like blood and guts.

Gore certainly isn’t for everyone, but for many gamers seeing claret and internal organs fly across the screen makes an experience that bit more exciting. And so some of you might be seeking out the goriest games on PS4.

While many PS4 games shy away from being too explicit in order to reach a wider audience, there are plenty that throw caution to the wind and let the blood and other grisly bits flow freely. Want to know which PS4 games will let you feed your bloodlust? Hopefully we can help. Here are what we believe to be the goriest games available on PS4.

Want to support GameSpew? If you decide to buy any of the games on this list, please consider doing so via our affiliate links, included below each entry. It won’t cost you anything extra, but we’ll get a small slice of the purchase.

Guts and Glory

Guts and Glory 1

Perhaps the maddest game on this list, Guts and Glory challenges you to negotiate fiendish courses without getting yourself killed.

There are circular saws attached to chairs, landmines, canons, logs laced with spikes and more, all out to end your day early. And only with persistence and skill will you manage to reach the end of each course without sustaining a major injury. But then that’s not fun.

Failing in Guts and Glory is often more entertaining than being victorious. Being hit with a canon will result in your character exploding into little bits, while being caught with a circular saw will see you lose a limb or two. In either case there’ll also be buckets of blood, and you can even change a setting in the game’s menus to make everything even more gory.

If you like blood and guts, Guts and Glory definitely doesn’t disappoint.

Sniper Ghost Warriors Contracts 2

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 screenshot_3

Your target is standing some 1,000 meters away, deep in conversation with a friend. You take a deep breath then pull the trigger of your high-powered sniper rifle equipped with a extreme-range scope. The bullet takes seconds to hit it mark, but when it does, your target’s head explodes. Those around him are horrified. You might be too, if you’re squeamish.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is one of the best sniping games available on PS4, and unlike most others it’s not afraid of showing injury detail. Equip yourself with a high-powered rifle and you may draw unwanted attention to yourself when firing it, but any target you hit will go down pretty much instantly. Arms, legs and heads can be blown off, creating a grisly spectacle that will make you wince at times. Needless to say, if you’re after the goriest games on PS4, this needs to be in your collection.

The Last of Us Part II

The Last of Us Part 2 3

If you have a PS4 and The Last of Us Part II isn’t in your game collection yet, then you’re doing something wrong. And of course, you should also have The Last of Us: Remastered. Both are some of the best story-driven games ever made. And thanks to their brutal combat, they’re also very gory.

Being developed specifically for the PS4, however, The Last of Us Part II outdoes its predecessor in the gore department, and is also just generally the better game of the two. It takes a realistic approach to combat in that, being outnumbered, it’s generally best to avoid it. It’s not always possible though, and with a wide assortment of weapons available ranging from shotguns to metal bars, it’s bloody and uncompromising.

It’s during some of the game’s story scenes where The Last of Us Part II is at its goriest, with some twists that will be heart-breaking for those who loved the first game. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Ninja Gaiden Master Collection

Ninja Gaiden Master Collection 3

Bundling up all three 3D Ninja Gaiden games to date, Ninja Gaiden Master Collection offers plenty of hack and slash action. And as you’d expect from a game series in which the lead character’s primary weapon is a samurai sword, there’s plenty of gore to be found.

All three Ninja Gaiden games feature blood and decapitations in this collection, but Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge is by far the goriest of the lot. It’s darker and edgier than the two previous games, and a damn sight bloodier, too. When protagonist Ryu Hayabusa’s arm glows red, he can also unleash a powerful obliteration technique, slicing up numerous nearby enemies.

Truth be told, the Ninja Gaiden games are all starting to feel a bit old now. But if you’re after the goriest games on PS4, this collection is worth picking up.

OneeChanbara Origin

Onee Chanbara Origin 2 (1)

The OneeChanbara series has been around since the days of the PS2, allowing players to slice and dice zombies with an array of scantily-clad women. OneeChanbara Origin is essentially a remake of the first two games in the series, making it suitable for existing fans and also newcomers. As it’s on this list, you can also bet that it’s gory.

Making your way through various environments, OneeChanbara Origin challenges you to eradicate a large number of zombies. As you swing your sword at them, blood will fly through the air, and limbs will occasionally be chopped off. You need to be careful though, because the bloodier your sword gets, the less effective it will be at cleaving your enemies apart.

You will want your character to get covered in blood, however, as it enables them to enter a powered-up state. With enough blood, they’ll even turn into a demon, allowing them to more easily massacre the hordes of zombies you face off against. When it comes to the goriest games on PS4, then, OneeChanbara Origin is quite obviously one of them. And while its gameplay is simple, it can be a lot of fun in small doses.

DOOM Eternal

DOOM Eternal 5 (1)

The latest in the long-running first-person shooter series, DOOM Eternal is not only a spectacular game, it’s also remarkably gory.

Many of DOOM Eternal‘s weapons turn enemies into bloody piles of gloop with minimal effort. Honestly, just equip the shotgun, get in close and shoot, and you’ll see what we mean. If you want your blood and guts to be delivered more manually, however, you can decimate your opponents with violent melee finishers.

DOOM guy doesn’t care how he makes his enemies bleed as long as they do it quickly, and if you’re running low on ammo you can even make him open them up like pinatas with a chainsaw. It’s a glorious sight to behold, and the ammo that litters the floor afterwards enables you to continue your carnage.

Every PS4 owner over the age of 18 should have a copy of DOOM Eternal in their library; it’s one of the best games available. And yeah, it’s also one of the goriest.

Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate (1)

While Mortal Kombat games have always been violent and gory, the latest, Mortal Kombat 11, is undoubtedly the most brutal of them all.

The power of modern consoles combined with some ghoulish imaginations has resulted in a game in which the fatalities really are gruesome and wince-inducing. Even if you’ve played plenty of Mortal Kombat games before Mortal Kombat 11, some of the finishers will still surprise you with how graphic they are.

If you want to see people sliced into bits, internal organs removed or bodies exploded, Mortal Kombat 11 is the game for you. There’s DLC that allows you to play as characters such as Spawn and Terminator too. Suffice to say, for fighting game fans that like a bit of ultraviolence, Mortal Kombat 11 is a must.

God of War 3 Remastered

God of War 3

Before Kratos mellowed and became guilty for the atrocities he committed, there was God of War 3.

Remastered for PS4, God of War 3 depicts Kratos at his most brutal. With his Blades of Chaos he tears his enemies asunder, but it’s with his hands that he carries out his most violent acts.

Tearing limbs off of foes is shocking enough when performed on mythical creatures, but when performed on gods it’s even more gory and shocking. And then there’s Zeus; how Kratos deals with him is just downright wrong.

We were quite honestly surprised by the lack of gore in the new God of War, but if you do want a God of War experience full of blood and guts, check out God of War 3 Remastered. Being one of the goriest games on PS4, you won’t be disappointed.

Hotline Miami 2

Hotline Miami 2 may not have fancy 3D graphics, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most violent and gory games available on PS4.

As you make your way through its large number of challenging levels you’ll dispatch a huge number of thugs, leaving bodies and pools of blood in your wake. Sometimes you’ll shoot your enemies to put them down, other times you might batter them with a baseball bat, but one thing’s for certain; no one gets to keep their life.

If you’re after some arcade action that’s easy to pick up but hard to put down, Hotline Miami 2 should satisfy you. It’ll also satiate your bloodlust.

Killing Floor 2

One to play with friends, Killing Floor 2 is a team-based shooter that’s sometimes a bit scary but also wildy entertaining.

Throwing a whole assortment of grotesque enemies at you, it’s up to you to take them down. In between each wave you’ll be given a small window to upgrade your arsenal, and you’ll be wanting to do so to make short work of your enemies.

With the right weapons you’ll be tearing your enemies to shreds in no time, with the action slowing down at times so you can really enjoy seeing the decapitation you just pulled off. And of course, everything around you will get covered in copious amounts of blood.

If you have a few like-minded friends that are willing to play it with you, Killing Floor 2 is perhaps the most fun you can have dissecting monsters that would otherwise appear in nightmares. It’s certainly one of the goriest games on PS4.

Shadow Warrior 2

Shadow Warrior 49

Flying Wild Hog’s Shadow Warrior games are great, but you know what makes them even better? Slicing up the enemies it throws at you with swords.

Shadow Warrior 2 has you once again taking control of Lo Wang, but like all good sequels it looks and plays better than its predecessor. With more open levels and a wider range of weapons it allows you some creative freedom, and chances are you’ll use that freedom to make its environments tainted with blood and guts.

While shooting your enemies with guns can be fun, there’s nothing better than slicing them with a good sword. And as you do so, you see limbs fly off, heads get decapitated, and blood splatter into the air. Honestly, Shadow Warrior 2‘s grisly combat is so beautiful that you’ll go into photo mode often to capture your hard work.

Funny, brutal and fun, if you’ve got a PS4 and are after the goriest games for it, Shadow Warrior 2 is a must.

The Evil Within 2

Survival Horror Evil Within 2-min

The Evil Within 2 is one of the best horror games of recent years.

Placing you once again in the shoes of Sebastian Castellanos, it throws you into a horrific world full of monsters in order to save your daughter. And along the way, you’ll see some very gruesome and grotesque sights.

Dispatching the game’s monsters results in buckets of blood being spilled, while blowing them up will send their limbs flying. Perhaps the goriest of The Evil Within 2’s scenes are created by one of its villains, though.

Stefano Valentini is a curious fellow who likes to create art with peoples innards, it would seem. You’ll encounter many of his creations as you make your way through the game, and every time you’ll be a little bit disgusted by his warped mind.

If you’ve got a PS4 you should really give The Evil Within 2 a try. It’s a much better game than its predecessor, which was still entertaining in its own right.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4

If you’re a fan of Bethesda’s Fallout series, you’re likely to have seen your fair share of gore.

While seeing heads explode isn’t all that uncommon in Fallout 4, especially when making use of V.A.T.S., by investing in the Bloody Mess perk you can make your experience a hell of a lot more gory.

Increasing your damage output, Bloody Mess also has the effect of making enemies randomly explode upon landing a killing blow. Honestly, it’s amusing as it is graphic, with limbs and gibs flying in all directions. It certainly makes playing the game more interesting.

If you want to make your Fallout 4 experience more surreal, definitely invest in the Bloody Mess perk. It’ll certainly impress gorehounds.

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil games have always been gory, but Resident Evil 7 is definitely the goriest of them all.

When you’re not blasting enemies to bits, they’ll be having fun torturing and maiming the supporting characters. Though you don’t escape the horror either, early on in the game you get your hand chainsawed off in brutal detail.

What makes Resident Evil 7 such a visceral experience compared to its predecessors is the move to a first-person viewpoint. It makes everything so much more alarming and real. If you want to play a game that is genuinely scary, and gory with it, you must play Resident Evil 7.
