Out now on PC and consoles, The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom is an apocalyptic adventure game aimed at kids.
It might be aimed at younger players, but that doesn’t mean it’s free from any tough moments. The first challenge you’re likely to come across is facing off against the game’s first boss, Scrapken. If you’re unprepared, this trash-hoarding kraken-like beast can pose a challenge. So, if you’re struggling, here’s how to beat Scrapken in The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom.
We’ve found that your fight against Scrapken can be made much more difficult if you don’t have the right character. Handily, there’s a booth to switch characters just before you enter the fight. We’d recommend going in as June as her ranged weapon allows you to keep your distance. Trying to use a melee character proves to be difficult as Scrapken gives very little opportunity to attack without getting damaged in return.
As June, simply keep back and keep shooting. Locking on to Scrapken with your left trigger will help you keep your bullets directed at him. Keep moving around the screen; you’ll need to dodge incoming tentacle attacks as well as trash falling from the sky. Look out for the circles appearing on the ground, and use the circle button (B on Xbox) to dash out of the way just before they land.
As long as you keep moving and keep directing your bullets at Scrapken, you should defeat him in no time. Remember to use your powered-up attack from time to time, and you can also use your summon (press your right shoulder button) once in a while to inflict some extra damage, too.
