Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition Is Now Available On PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition

If you have a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, there’s never been a better time to play Metro Exodus.

After launching on PC last month, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is now available on next-gen consoles. And the best part is, if you already own the game on PS4 or Xbox One, you get a free upgrade.

Made to fully embrace the power of next-gen, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition features fully ray-traced lighting, reduced loading times and 4K textures. It also targets 60fps, managing to achieve that while outputting at 4K resolution on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and 1080p on Xbox Series S, albeit via the use of a temporal upscaler. The cherry on top is a FOV slider. Needless to say, the game has never looked or played better on console.

PS5 owners get more next-gen benefits, too, including DualSense and Activity Card support. Anyone that has played Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition on PC with a DualSense controller will already know what to expect, but on a basic level, each gun has its own unique feel as you pull the trigger.

Having seen the game in action on PS5 and Xbox Series X before launch, we can confirm that it’s visually a huge step up from what was released on PS4 and Xbox One. Environments are much more detailed and natural; they are now literally dripping with atmosphere. The implementation of ray-traced global illumination and emissive lighting techniques means light realistically bounces of surfaces, giving every scene much more depth.

The console version of Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is still overshadowed by its PC counterpart, however. For a start, ray-traced reflections aren’t available on console, and there are a lower number of ray-traced rays than if you are playing at max settings on PC. Still, it’s to be expected – you can take the PC settings to extreme levels, after all.

For those who don’t already own Metro Exodus, Metro Exodus Complete Edition is available now for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and includes the base game as well as its two expansions. If you’re still not convinced we’ll have a review soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
