Are you playing Grand Theft Auto Online on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3? We’ve got some bad news.
Rockstar have announced that, this December, Grand Theft Auto Online will be shut down for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. You’ll, naturally, still be able to play Grand Theft Auto 5’s storyline but GTA Online, GTA5’s online component will be gone for good.
Still, you can always transfer your character and progress, right? No, that’s not an option either, unless Rockstar decide to reimplement the feature. You originally could transfer characters to PS4 and Xbox One (GTA Online will remain active on those platforms) but the facility was removed, apparently due to cheating.
It’s been a while since we dipped into the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto Online, but what made things especially interesting was that, unlike the PS4, the PS3 didn’t require PlayStation Plus for online play. So, as long as you had a PS3 and Grand Theft Auto 5, you could Grand Theft Auto Online without it costing you a penny.
But now that’s coming to an end. December 16th is the exact date GTA Online will be shut down, so if you want to get some old-gen online thievery in, we’d recommend you do it now.
