Sonic the Hedgehog Gets His Own Card Game

Sonic the Card Game

There’s a new Sonic the Hedgehog game coming out and it’s.. entirely card based?

Available for pre-order now from Sega’s online store, Sonic the Card Game has you playing as Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Blaze, or Shadow (no Doctor Robotnik apparently), collecting power-ups and rings to beat your fellow players.

On the plus side, Sonic the Card Game is certainly portable and looks to be no bigger than your average pack of playing cards; we’re not talking about a Cards against Humanity size box here. So it seems like this is just the kind of thing you could take with you on a car journey.

We also have to admire the gloriously absurd box blurb which, sporting the same energy as Life is Strange’s dialogue, reads “Card racing is the new car racing. It’s way past cool!” And at £14.99 for the full game it’s unlikely it’s going to break the bank.

But we’re also curious as to how this “card racing” game is going to create any sensation of speed, unless the rounds are timed. And is Tails going to be just as rubbish as he is in most Sonic the Hedgehog videogames?

You can discover the answers for yourself when Sonic the Card Game arrives on the Sega Store this September 6th or two weeks later when it will land at normal retailers.

He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
