Wonder what a Resident Evil 1 remake (technically a re-remake) would look like? Developer Moonglint has you covered.
That’s not to say Moonglint is working on such a remake, they’re actually creating a game called Vigil which is a game very much in the vein of the original Resident Evil. Capcom’s horror classic was released in 1996 and a remake followed in 2002, initially landing on the Gamecube. Moonglint recreated a short section of what, if you didn’t know better, could be an actual chunk of an official remake.
There are two chunks of video footage, both hosted on the Residence of Evil channel. The first, a longer clip, shows the pretend remake from a first-person perspective while the second, despite being in a strange vertical format, uses an over-the-shoulder perspective. The micro-remake was made using Unreal Engine 4.
Capcom probably aren’t remaking Resident Evil right now, and are likely in fact working on a Resident Evil 4 remake, having already remade the second and third titles in the series. But they’ll eventually be getting around to the game that kicked off the series and maybe they should get in contact with Moonglint when they do. You can find more about their upcoming Resi-style game, Vigil, by following them on Twitter.
