Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers is Getting a Free-to-Play Weekend

Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers is free-to-play this weekend!

That’s just a temporary measure, though. While the game reportedly hasn’t turned a profit for the company, they’re still happily releasing DLC for the superhero-based brawler. We got a real kick out of the game, giving it an 8 out of 10 and saying, “Sit back, relax, and enjoy punching, shooting, flying and looting. It might not require much in the way of brainpower, but it’s one heck of an enjoyable ride.”

That said, the characters’ appearances still nag at us a little, especially after rewatching Avengers: Endgame. They’re close enough to their MCU equivalents that they come across the kind lookalikes you’d hire for a corporate event or upmarket comic-con. You look at them and think.. “Oh, it’s Captain America! Wait, no it’s not.”

Now, this weekend, you can experience that kind of mental confusion for yourself. You can try Marvel’s Avengers on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia and PC (via Steam) from 29th July to the 1st of August. There won’t be an Xbox trial this weekend, but Square Enix have advised Xbox owners will be getting one at at a later date.

If you do give the game a go, your progress and unlocks will carry over to the full release. Square Enix haven’t said that the full version of the game will be discounted but, going by previous similar events, we wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel’s Avengers gets a short-term price cut.
