It’s nearly a new month, and that means new Xbox Games With Gold are on the horizon.
It’s a surprisingly decent month this time around, with four games becoming available to Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in August.
On 1st August, you’ll be able to claim Darksiders III and Lost Planet 3. Then, two weeks later on 16th August, you can claim Yooka-Laylee and Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
Released in 2018, Darksiders III was one of our favourite games of that year, and so is undoubtedly the highlight of August’s Games With Gold line-up. We reviewed it with a rather impressive 9/10, saying “I love its character and enemy designs; its world draws you in and surprises you with the way all of its environments are linked together; and it really does have some epic boss fights. Throw in some light puzzling and an engaging story, and you have a no-frills adventure game that somehow feels fresh.”
Yooka-Laylee is a fun 3D platformer, evoking the spirit of classics like Banjo-Kazooie. It suffered some issues when we reviewed it at launch back in 2017, but a number of patches has improved the experience greatly since then.
As for the Xbox 360 offerings in August, Lost Planet 3 is a third-person action-shooter that originally released back in 2013. That was long before GameSpew existed, and so we don’t have a review – but it’s a fairly entertaining adventure on a far-off planet. Plus, being a prequel to Lost Planet, it doesn’t matter if you haven’t played any of the series before.
Finally, Garou: Mark of the Wolves is a fighting game which originally started life in arcades back in 1999. It’s part of the Fatal Fury series, so if classic one-on-one combat is your jam, there’s a lot to like here.
If you’ve not yet claimed July’s Games With Gold, there’s still time. You’ve got until 31st July to pick up Planet Alpha and Midway Arcade Origins, and until 15th August to grab Rock of Ages III.
