Jet Set Radio is… not back, but Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania will let you play as protagonist Beat.
Is that a good thing? We can’t decide if Sega is offering a respectful nod to the much-loved Dreamcast graffiti skate game or rubbing it in that we’ll never get an official Jet Set Radio 2. Either way, Banana Mania’s guest protagonist is still an interesting bonus.
Sega have revealed that the character will be unlockable through “normal gameplay”, so you’ll likely to have to complete a certain number of levels or hit a specific record, but he’s not going to be a pre-order bonus, something that’s often the norm. His presence increases the number of playable characters to seven, though we wouldn’t be surprised if a few other Sega characters make their way to Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania will hit the Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC this October 5th. As for Jet Set Radio? If you’re craving a sequel of sorts, the upcoming Bomb Rush Cyberfunk could be what you’re after.
