Metroid Dread has a new teaser trailer that hints at links to the series’ past.
The trailer also proves that if you find yourself in any implicated in a prophecy you should run a mile. It has Samus Aran, the Metroid series’ armoured bounty-hunter gazing at huge engraved mural, probably etched into the side of some tomb or other.
The mural features the Chozo, the bird-like race who raised Samus as well as several figures clad in Samus’s armour. It’s not clear whether this is supposed to be Samus herself or whether it’s just other figures in armour similar to hers but you can expect Metroid Dread to add to the series’ already lengthy lore.
Metroid Dread isn’t a new Metroid Prime, which is what Metroid fans were expecting; instead, it’s a 2D Metroid game. Aside from the usual level-roaming shenanigans, Samus will also have to cope with a robotic stalker that can’t easily be dispatched, so there’ll be sections where running is the only option.
Faint glimpses hint at the dread that lies ahead for Samus.
