Speedrunning Looks Even Stranger if You’re an NPC

Speedrunning NPC

Speedrunning can be really, really wild.

It’s not just that speedrunners belt around levels, trying to complete it in the shortest time possible. They also employ glitches, tricks and so forth to bypass entire levels, flinging themselves into the air, clipping through walls and pulling off some amazing, amazing feats.

But, astounding as speedrunning might look from the inside, what do you think a game’s NPCs would make of it? This video from YouTuber Goat-on-a-Stick answers just that question and it’s really something.

The video, set in a Grand Theft Auto style world, has a speedrunner clipping his way into a bank vault, employing knowledge he’s not supposed to have and uprooting a criminal empire, all within the space of a couple of minutes. All the NPCs can do is look in in utter astonishment; the Joel Haver-style animation is the icing on the cake.

It’s nearly as good Goat-on-a-Stick’s Streets of Rage 2 parody, though as Streets fans we’re bound to be biased. You check out the rest of their videos here.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
