If you grew up playing classic survival horror games such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, PQube has something special in store for you this month.
Developed by Dual Effect Games, Tormented Souls is a survival horror game inspired by the classics. That means it has tank controls, fixed angle cameras, and of course, combat. Don’t worry though, modern gamers; you don’t have to use tank controls if you don’t want to, and there are some more up-to-date elements to keep the game from feeling like it’s too bogged down by the past.
In Tormented Souls you’ll be taking control of a young woman called Caroline, who travels to a mysterious mansion after receiving a cryptic photograph in the post. Things suddenly take a dark turn for her, though, as shortly after arriving at the mansion she’s knocked unconscious, only to recover naked and with an eye removed. With trepidation, she begins to explore the creepy abode she’s found herself in, hoping to find the meaning behind the photograph, and a way out.
Tormented Souls launches August 27th on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch at a later date. If you have a PS5 or PC, you don’t have to wait to give Tormented Souls a try; a demo is available now, allowing you to play a nice slice of the game. We’ve given it a go, and while we aren’t particularly impressed with the character models or voice acting, the environments are detailed and the puzzles are engaging. Perfectly capturing the essence of old-school survival horrors, it’s tense and spooky. Needless to say, we can’t wait to go hands-on with the full game later this month.
