Far Cry 5 is free to play all this weekend!
Don’t worry, it isn’t going to get even more microtransactions; Ubisoft are hoping you’ll be so taken with this open-world shooter you’ll decide to buy it outright. Once the weekend’s up it’ll stop being free-to-play though the good news is that, during the free weekend, you’ll be able to grab the game at up to an 85% discount.
In case you missed out on Far Cry 5 the first time, it’s set in the modern day and sees you taking on a cult leader who’s taken over a region of Montana. Yes, it’s set in America, though the satire’s not quite as pointed as you might think. We felt let down by Far Cry 5’s story but still had a whale of a time with it.
While this has been advertised as a free weekend, you get a little longer to mess about with the game, starting tomorrow and ending 9th August. Here’s when you’ll be able to play Far Cry 5 for free:
PC (via Ubisoft Store): 5th August at 2pm BST
PC (via Epic Games Store): 5th August at 6pm BST
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4: 5th August at 8.01am BST
Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One: 5th August at 8:01am BST
Stadia: 5th August at 6pm BST
With Far Cry 6 arriving in October, we suspect the purpose of the free weekend is to both milk as much money out of the game as possible but also remind players that the Far Cry franchise exists. Either way, you’ve nothing to lose from giving it a go.
