If you’ve just bought Deathloop, or are thinking about doing so, you’re probably wondering if it has any co-op or multiplayer features. Here’s what you need to know.
Yes, Deathloop does indeed have multiplayer features. It supports online multiplayer in one very interesting way – and one that’s integrated into the single-player content very cleverly.
When you first start Deathloop, you’re presented with two game choices: Break the Loop, and Protect the Loop. Break the Loop is the main single-player game, where you’ll play as Colt in an effort to free Blackreef from its day-long timeloop. But Protect the Loop, however, allows you to play as Julianna, someone who wants to prevent Colt from breaking the timeloop.
In Protect the Loop mode, you’ll be able to jump into a friend’s game, or join a random player’s game, as Julianna. Your mission is essentially to kill Colt, and to do so you have various skills and abilities at your disposal. You can only jump into a game in particular circumstances, though, so you can’t constantly hound the same friend.
If you’re playing as Colt, you’ll need to make sure your game is set to ‘Online’ or ‘Friends Only’ in order to join in multiplayer and allow players in control of Julianna into your game. You’ll find the option in the main menu, at the top-left hand corner of your screen. Even if you’re set to ‘Single Player Only’, you’ll still be invaded by Julianna from time to time – only she’ll be controlled by the computer.
There are no local multiplayer features or co-operative multiplayer. It’s online only, and it’s each player for themselves!
