Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania will let you play the game as one of three classic Sega consoles.
No, we’re absolutely not making this up. We were holding out hope that the Prince of All Cosmos from Katamari Damacy would make it into this upcoming level-tilting action game, but never in a million years did we think we’d get this.
You’ll have to pay $4.99 to get your hands on this retro-themed content, dubbed the SEGA Legends Pack, or purchase the Digital Deluxe edition of Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania But if you do the monkey in the titular ball will be replaced by a Game Gear, Sega Dreamcast or Sega Saturn.
It looks as if, unlike other upcoming content, these three “characters”, don’t change the in-game collectibles, which will remain as bananas. And we’d like to say it’s a nice touch, a charming callback to the days when Sega was a hardware manufacturer, not just a developer and publisher.
Unfortunately we can’t, because we’re boiling with rage that while the battery-guzzling Game Gear is included, the Mega Drive/Genesis has been cruelly omitted. How could you do do this to us, Sega, after we bought the Mega CD and everything? If it wasn’t for the fact the Master System is appearing Lost Judgement, we’d never forgive them.
Sega Monkey Ball Banana hits the Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC this October 5th, along with the classic console DLC.
