How to Increase Your Population Limit in Age of Empires IV

Age of Empires IV Review

Wondering how to increase your population limit in Age of Empires IV? Here’s everything you need to know.

War is about innovation, development and logistics. It is about outthinking your enemy and controlling the field of battle. It is about forcing your advantages whilst minimising any weaknesses you possess. And sometimes, just sometimes, it’s about sheer weight of numbers.

In Age of Empires IV you will want to outthink but also outforce your opponent. To do that, you will have to have a higher population limit than them. The total population limit for any faction in a default game is 200. Only Mongols, with their unique nomadic playstyle, have that available from the get go. Kind of like the Huns in Age of Empires II. So, how do you increase your population limit for other factions in Age of Empires IV?

If you are playing as any other faction, you will need to build houses. Building houses allows your population to grow by providing new places for people to live. You will also increase your population limit by building other buildings such as town centres and keeps. Though be warned: in most cases you are not able to build these until the third age.

Be careful not to let your houses and the like be destroyed – your population can go down as well as up!

I will leave you with a relevant and poignant quote from one Zapp Brannigan: “You see, killbots have a pre-set kill limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my own men at them until they reached their limit and shut down. Kif, show them the medal I won.”
