Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Next Patch Will Slim Down its Install Size

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s next patch will reduce the game’s install size by an average of 30GB.

The good news is this hasn’t been accomplished replacing every other noise with either the Wilhelm scream or the door opening sound from Doom. Instead, it “consolidates the game files”, according to Ubisoft’s announcement, resulting in not only smaller overall file sizes but also improved load times.

The latter benefit is cool but it’s the reduced file size that’s really got us paying attention. Given that SSDs aren’t exactly cheap, anything that lets us shoehorn one more game onto our Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5s is very welcome.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that to get the benefit out of this new update you’ll have to download the whole game again. You can click here for more information, but you’re going to be downloading a lot of data. The title update will then trim the size of the install down but you should still keep an eye on your broadband cap, if you have one.

So what if you have Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on disc? In theory you should be able to reinstall it from the disc, but Ubisoft haven’t confirmed this. But for the sake of halving the game’s size we’re more than prepared to crack open a four pack of bargain-basement energy drinks and sugar-rush our way through a reinstall.

The update is due to arrive to arrive next week and if you’ve not yet explored this viking-era action stealth game you can check out our review of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla here.
