Roccat Pyro Review: One of The Best Mid-Range Mechanical Keyboards

Roccat Pyro

There are plenty of mechanical gaming keyboards on the market, vying for your attention. But after spending considerable time with the Roccat Pyro, we’re convinced it’s one of the best.

With an RRP of £89.99, the Roccat Pyro is a mid-range mechanical keyboard, offering all you need without excessive flair. It boasts linear mechanical keys, which are reliable and responsive. And a brushed aluminium top gives it a premium finish. It’s just a shame that it’s cable is PVC rather than braided. It doesn’t matter all that much, but it’s something we’ve come to expect from such devices.

Ultimately, it’s the mechanical keys here that are the real stars. We like that there’s a tiny bit more give in them than most other mechanical keyboards we’ve tested, and they’re not quite as clicky or loud. It makes for a nicer, quieter experience, particularly if you also find yourself typing quite often. It’s simply a pleasure to use.

In addition to its fantastic keys, the Roccat Pyro also has some other unique features and functions that may draw you towards it. There’s a handy volume knob, for example, which is operated with a rewarding twist. It also comes with Easy-Shift technology, allowing you to add secondary functions to certain keys. You’ll need to install Roccat’s Swarm software to make the best of it though.

Another benefit of Swarm, however, is that it also allows you to fully customise the keyboard’s per-key RGB lighting. Without Swarm installed, the Roccat Pyro lights up rather nicely, providing you with a rainbow of colours. But install Swarm, and you have full control. The Roccat Pyro can sync with other devices as well, to create a consistent scheme. It all depends on how much time you want to put into it.

Completing the package is the inclusion of wrist rest for your comfort. It’s easily connected to the keyboard, and pretty secure once done so. It blends in rather nicely, too. We found it very comfortable using the Roccat Pyro without it, but if you do often experience discomfort while using it it’s a nice that it’s there.

Overall, if you want a mechanical keyboard that’s a great all-rounder and doesn’t cost too much, the Roccat Pyro comes very highly recommended. From its premium finish to its fancy RGB lighting system, there’s a lot to love here. It’s the keys that stand out though, being rewarding to press and a little less clicky and loud than most others we’ve tried. If those are some things you value, then certainly consider picking this keyboard up.

The Roccat Pyro is available with an RRP of £89.99. A unit was provided to us by Roccat for the purposes of this review.
