With Dying Light 2: Stay Human less than two weeks away, developer Techland has shown off the game’s next-gen console performance modes.
So, if you’ve managed to get your hands on a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, you’ll have the choice of three modes, depending on whether you want beautiful ray-traced graphics, super smooth animation or 4K graphics.
The three modes are Quality Mode, Resolution Mode and Performance Mode. Quality mode sports ray tracing and will give you the prettiest playthrough. Resolution Mode has the game running in 4K and Performance Mode will aim for 60 frame-per-second play.
Techland has also revealed that those who own a next-gen, or more accurately, new-gen console will get a free upgrade. The Xbox’s Smart Delivery system (mostly) ensures you get the platform-appropriate version of a game but if you own a PlayStation 5 and purchase the PlayStation 4 version of Dying Light 2 you’ll get the PlayStation 5 version for free.
Techland has, however, yet to reveal some details – for example, what FPS we can expect from Quality Mode. They’ve previously tweeted out details of the PC version’s performance, which may offer some insight. So we suspect, going by that announcement, Quality Mode will reach around 30FPS. But we’d very much like to see Techland release a similar chart for next-gen consoles.
You can check out the PlayStation 5’s various modes in action above, or click here for the Xbox Series X version. The latter makes no mention of how Dying Light 2 will perform on the the Xbox Series S, but we’ll keep you posted if we hear more. The Nintendo Switch cloud version has been delayed, but you can pick up Dying Light 2 Stay Human on PC, PlayStation and Xbox this February 4th.
