Monster Crown, a Grown-Up Take on Pokemon, is Coming to Xbox and PlayStation Next Month

Arriving on Xbox and PlayStation this February, Monster Crown is a darker take on Pokémon.

Pokémon is already kind of dark when you think about it. Sure, it’s marketed at kids but this is a world where animals are trapped in tiny portable prisons and only sees the light of day when their “owner” wants to train them or force them to fight another monster. On top of that, people also eat Pokémon. No, we’re not making that up, go and check if you don’t believe us.

Monster Crown is, however, a more specifically grown-up take. We took a look at it its Early Access incarnation, remarking that “it’s worth picking up if you want a hit of nostalgia with an attitude all of its own”. It also had us laughing out loud which, unless a game is meant to be deadly serious, is a bonus.

It launched on Nintendo Switch and PC last year and will arrive on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this February 22nd. Solo developer Jason Walsh promises “significant content updates tailor-made to please monster veterans and new tamers alike”. Presumably any new content will also make its way to Switch and PC, otherwise those who previously purchased it might feel a little left out.
