See that picture at the top of this article? You’d be forgiven for thinking that’s just an ordinary Atari 2600. You’d be wrong. It’s actually made out of LEGO.

This Atari 2600 has been submitted to LEGO Ideas today, and is designed by user Zimbabweave. It’s a replica of the console itself and comes with two joysticks – both of which are moveable! For comparison, here’s how a real-life Atari 2600 looks:

Needless to say, then, Zimbabweave has done an incredible job creating a model that looks just like it. The colours are perfect, the shape is spot-on, and the controllers are incredibly well made. The only thing that’s missing is the wording around the switches at the top – but that’s nothing that couldn’t be fixed with a sticker. LEGO loves stickers.

Zimbabweave says they were inspired by LEGO’s NES set, which is clear to see. We’d say an Atari 2600 is slightly more niche than the Nintendo Entertainment System, but this is still a much-loved retro console, and there’s a real thirst for retro memorabilia.

This isn’t the first LEGO Ideas submission from Zimbabweave. It seems they’re big fans of retro technology, and they’ve also created a cassette player out of bricks. It’s another effective build that shows off their talents as a LEGO creator.

If you’d like to see the LEGO Ideas Atari 2600 brought to life, head on over to the LEGO Ideas website and give it a vote of support. It has 60 days to gather 100 votes, at which time its deadline will be extended by 365 days. Ultimately, a LEGO Idea submission needs to gather 10,000 votes before it can be considered for production.
