Today, Bandai Namco has announced One Piece Odyssey, a brand new RPG in the One Piece franchise.
The news comes from a special One Piece livestream held earlier today to celebrate the 25th anniversary of One Piece. Set to release later this year, it seems that One Piece Odyssey will put players in the shoes of Straw Hats leader Monkey D. Luffy as he sets out on a brand new adventure.
It’s set to tell a brand new story, and despite focusing on Luffy players can look forward to meeting new characters along the way. While at sea, Luffy and his crew find themselves in the midst of a huge storm, which completely destroys the Thousand Sunny. Washed up on a new land, the Straw Hats have an all-new adventure ahead of them, which presumably revolves around building a new ship and finding their way home.
If you’re a fan of the anime series, we have good news: One Piece Odyssey is set to star the original Japanese VO cast. We’re also told that the game is set to be “rooted in canon” and will “retain the humour and chemistry of the anima with Oda-Sensei’s involvement”. That sounds good to us.
You can watch the announcement trailer for One Piece Odyssey below. It doesn’t give too much away, but we can’t wait to find out more.
The livestream also revealed information about One Piece’s upcoming live-action Netflix series and a new character from One Piece Film Red, an upcoming animated movie. You can watch the full livestream yourself by clicking here.
One Piece Odyssey is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC later this year. We’ll have more to share in the coming months.
