What do Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 all have in common, aside from the obvious? The answer is, they’re all getting free next-gen upgrades.
Capcom has announced today that all three Resident Evil games of the PS4 and Xbox One era will be upgraded by the end of the year. And the upgrades sound pretty good, too. On PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard will have cutting-edge features such as high frame rate, ray-tracing and 3D audio. The PS5 version will also have DualSense support for adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
Anyone that owns a PS4 or Xbox One copy of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 or Resident Evil 7 Biohazard will be able to upgrade to the respective next-gen edition for free. Smart Delivery will be in action on Xbox, while PS5 users will be able to upgrade to native PS5 versions via the PlayStation Store. And don’t worry PC players, you’re getting the upgrades too. They’ll be delivered via patches for each game.
So, whether you’ve already played all of last-gen’s Resident Evil games and are looking for a reason to jump into them again, or are a next-gen console owner looking for some scares, this year has just got a whole lot better. There’s no set release date for any of these updates yet, but we imagine Capcom will have more to say about them soon. Until then, have fun with Resident Evil Village if you haven’t already. And maybe consider buying physical copies of the games set to be upgraded while they’re cheap.
