April’s Xbox Games With Gold titles have been unveiled and, as of tomorrow, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can get their hands on two of these freebies.
Why only two? Because Microsoft stagger their Games With Gold games, releasing two at the beginning of the month and another two in the middle of the month. Typically there are two Xbox 360 titles (playable via backwards compatibility) and two Xbox One titles.
The quality of these titles can vary, however. There have been months when we’ve felt that Microsoft was really spoiling us and others where, though we’re ultimately paying for access to the Xbox’s online multiplayer facilities, we wondered if we could get our money back. This month, the following are on offer:
- Another Sight (Xbox One): Available April 1 to 30
- Hue (Xbox One): Available April 16 to May 15
- Outpost Kaloki X (Xbox 360): Available April 1 to 15
- MX vs ATV Alive (Xbox 360): Available April 16 to 30
We’ve yet to play Another Sight, but we’re definitely tempted to dive into this Steampunk adventure, which gives you a ginger cat companion and, at times, has you playing as them. We can, however, definitely recommend puzzle-platformer Hue, which resembles nothing so much as the secret lovechild of Tetris and Limbo. In our review we said “..even those who aren’t big fans of puzzle games should consider picking Hue up.”
Outpost Kaloki X was before GameSpew’s time but the prospect of building your own space station, ensuring travellers don’t go away miserable sounds like fun. MX vs ATV Alive is an off-road bike-em-up, but when you can get your hands on games like Monster Energy Supercross 5, is it really worth taking that step back in time?
Our verdict? It’s not Games With Gold’s best month but we’ve seen worse. Microsoft should also shortly be revealing the games that are coming to Xbox Game Pass, so keep an eye out for those.
