A Tales from the Borderlands Sequel is Coming This Year

Tales from the Borderlands New Story

Tales from the Borderlands is getting a new story, according to developer Gearbox.

No, that’s not a typo; with the demise of the original developer Telltale Games, this follow-up to the Borderlands-based point-and-click adventure is being handled by the Gearbox themselves. It makes sense, given that Gearbox created the Borderlands games in the first place.

It’s been nearly seven games since the final episode in the original Tales from the Borderlands series dropped, so this announcement, tweeted out by Gearbox, came as something of a surprise. But, unless it’s secret code for “Has anyone found a memory stick?”, we really are getting a new Tales games this year.

We reviewed the original five-episode season back in 2016, calling it “TellTale Games at its very best”. The series ended up being delisted for a while before being restored in February 2021, published by 2K Games who are also publishing this new season.

However, a question mark remains as to what story this season will tell or, indeed if it’ll episodic. The final episode of Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, with.. well, we won’t spoil it for you, so there’s definitely room to pick up the original story there. But doing so could risk alienating those who are unfamiliar with Rhys and Fiona’s tale.

We’ll let you know when we hear more (Gearbox promise a full announcement this Summer) but we’re glad to hear Tales from the Borderlands is getting a second chance at life. Now, if we can just get another season of Telltale’s Game of Thrones..
