Hypnospace Outlaw is Getting Not One But Two Follow-Ups

Dreamsettler

Hypnospace Outlaw is.. not back, but it’s getting two sort-of sequels in the form of Dreamsettler and Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer.

If you’ve not played Hypnospace Outlaw, it’s quite a game. It casts you as a web detective, searching a late 90s/early 2000s style internet, complete with terrible animated gifs, looking for serious web crime. If you were around in the 90s, you’ll get it immediately and if not, you’ll refuse to believe that the World Wide Web was ever this terrible.

Now it’s getting two follow-ups set in the same bizarre universe, one a first-person shoot-em-up, the other a more direct follow-up. Dreamsettler follows in the footsteps of Hypnospace Outlaw, expanding the clunky web-style weirdness to the whole desktop. You won’t just be browsing the web, you’ll be meddling with all sorts of imaginary apps.

The other, Slayers X (we’re not typing that whole thing every time) is all but indistinguishable from actual late 90s shooters. No, we’re not talking about Doom here, rather those titles that took shiny, pre-rendered characters and turned them into pixellated foes. We’ve can’t tell what kind of bizarre weapons are being used in the game, which is absolutely on brand for a 90s shooter.

Dreamsettler (check out the trailer here) and Slayers X are being published by No More Robots and developed by Tender Shoot/Noble Robots and Big Z Studios. Of the two, Slayers X intrigues us more though we’re hoping it goes beyond the initial “lol 90s shooters” joke. Neither has a release date, but we’ll let you know when hear more.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
