LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Has Set the Record for the Biggest LEGO Game Launch

LEGO Star Wars the Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga launched all of two weeks ago and it’s sold a ridiculous 3.2 million copies across all platforms.

With an RRP of £49.99, that’s nearly £160 million in sales or the equivalent of 260,114 LEGO Star Destroyers. It’s also, according to publishers Warner Bros. Interactive, the biggest LEGO game launch to date.

Are we surprised? Not as much as you might think. For a start, it’s been in development for three years, which has been plenty of time for the hype surrounding the title to snowball. Secondly, it’s LEGO. Thirdly, it’s Star Wars. And, on top of that, it’s a great game, as we concluded in our review.

And it’s not over, either. There are several DLC packs on the way, featuring characters who didn’t feature into the main movies; The Mandalorian Season 1, Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Trooper Pack, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Mandalorian Season 2, and The Bad Batch, as well as Classic Characters pack with appearances based on the older LEGO mini-figs.

We’re glad that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been a hit, though we do hope some of the profits find their way into the hands of the developers, artists and so on who worked on the title. Polygon reported on the crunch that was taking place at developer TT Games and while that was supposedly fixed, that doesn’t erase what the staff were presumably put through.

Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
