Riders Republic kicks off its second season, “Showdown”, today, adding a bizarre lightning-harvesting new mode and more.
Launched in October of last year, Riders Republic is an extreme sports game which, while it supports solo play, has a heavy focus on showing off your skills to other human participants. In our review, we called it “..a game that’s all about having fun, living in the moment, and not taking life seriously”. So introducing a 6 v 6 lighting collection match isn’t out of character for the game.
But that’s not the only addition, though Ubisoft have yet to reveal everything they have in the works. There are three new bikes, the The Spider, the Sniper and the Juggernaut, the latter resembling something Mad Max would ride. There are also new mass races, which promise to be extremely chaotic.
However, it’s still the lightning showdown matches which have us paying attention. Going from what we’ve seen, they’re a mash-up of Mario Kart’s balloon battles, Dead Rising 2’s opening mini-game and Riders Republic’s regular rides. We have our fingers crossed that future seasons will lead more into this sort of mayhem.
Rider’s Republic is available on available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia and PC.
