Kung-fu brawler Sifu is getting a host of new updates, starting this May.
We reviewed Sifu back in February, calling it “..one of the most striking and original roguelikes we’ve ever had the pleasure of playing”. We also remarked that it required patience and persistence, not least because the second level gets significantly harder. And, since the more times you expire the more your character ages, completing the game as anything other than an OAP is a god-tier achievement.
But if you have stuck with Sifu, honing your character into a kung-fu badass, you’ll be happy to hear that Sloclap has several updates and new features in the works, the first of which is arriving in May. Even better, these updates are all free, so if you’ve already picked up Sifu you won’t have pay another penny.
So what’s on the cards for Sifu? As revealed by Sloclap’s Sifu roadmap, spring will see the arrival of difficulty modes, advanced training and the option to select your outfit. Summer will bring game modifiers such as stronger guards and an advanced scoring system. Fall’s update will add a replay editor, letting you show off and share your fighting moves. And in winter there’ll be a new “Arena” mode, more modifiers and more outfits.

Will that be the end for Sifu? Sloclap have yet to reveal if they’ll delivering a second year of content but the difficulty options alone should help open up the game. The first update is set to arrive this May 3rd, less than a week away and also the day Sifu’s physical version is released. And if you’ve not tackled Sifu yet, you can pick it up on PS4, PS5 and PC.
