Frostpunk Devs Reveal The Alters, An Intriguing Sci-Fi Title

The Alters

One trailer showed off during tonight’s PC Gaming Show that really caught our attention is The Alters.

A cinematic trailer that’s just over two minutes long, it gives very little away. But it tells us everything we need to know to ensure The Alters is high on our anticipated list. And knowing it’s from 11 bit studios, the team behind Frostpunk and This War of Mine? Well, that just seals the deal.

The trailer, which you can watch for yourself below, shows a group of men working on what appears to some some sort of space station. Except… these aren’t just any men. They’re all the same man. Alarm bells.

The Alters is the story of one man, Jan Dolski, a simple working fellow. But in the futuristic world that the game is set into, he finds himself crash-landing on a distance planet. And, well, one thing leads to another and Jan ends up creating alternate versions of himself to allow him to survive. The titular Alters.

Telling a classic tale of science fiction, The Alters allows its players to investigate how one man’s choices can impact the path he takes in life. Each Alter that Jan has created shows his life on a different path, with every version of himself having different stills and different personalities.

Do we know exactly what type of game The Alters is? No. But we’ll find out more as development progresses (the team has already been hard at work on this for three years!). And we feel like we know enough to be intrigued to the max.

So far, there’s no release date scheduled for The Alters. It’s coming to PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG, and you can add it to your wishlist here.
