Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 Will Return to Digital Storefronts

Metal Gear 35th

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are on their way back and it couldn’t happen at a better time.

Why? Because it’s 35 years since the original Metal Gear (not Metal Gear Solid) was released. Unfortunately, there’s no news of a Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2 remaster but we’ll still be glad to get Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 back.

They were removed last year, due to copyright issues surrounding the archival footage they made use of. Except.. there was a snag. Because MGS 2 and 3 featured in several collections across multiple platforms, a grand total of twelve titles were removed. The following were delisted from digital storefronts:

・PlayStation®3 METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SONS OF LIBERTY HD EDITION
・PlayStation®3 METAL GEAR SOLID 3 SNAKE EATER HD EDITION
・PlayStation®3 METAL GEAR SOLID HD EDITION
・PlayStation®Vita METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SONS OF LIBERTY HD EDITION
・PlayStation®Vita METAL GEAR SOLID 3 SNAKE EATER HD EDITION
・PlayStation®Vita METAL GEAR SOLID HD COLLECTION
・PlayStation™Now METAL GEAR SOLID HD COLLECTION
・Xbox 360 METAL GEAR SOLID HD EDITION: 2 & 3
・Nintendo 3DS METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE EATER 3D
・GOG.com METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SUBSTANCE
・NVIDIA® SHIELD™ METAL GEAR SOLID 2 HD for SHIELD TV
・NVIDIA® SHIELD™ METAL GEAR SOLID 3 HD for SHIELD TV

As confirmed through the official Metal Gear Twitter account, they’re coming back. The footage in question will either have been removed, replaced, or re-licenced. Publisher Konami has yet to state when the titles will return but it shouldn’t be long until Metal Gear fans can once again step into the shoes of Solid Snake, Raiden and Big Boss.
